Sunlit Poppies II

Ever just collapse on the grass and look up into the blue sky? Watching the clouds move and change as the soft winds blow? Oh, and how those flowers look from the ground up! Such beauty that our creator makes! I could just lay there forever. Close your eyes and see the bright imprint of the flowers and the day on your eyelids. Wow, I love that!
So, this painting is just that very thing, a moment captured in paint.

Still on the Easel

started this painting of an upward look under the poppies looking toward the sky. Got some of the color in. I love the cadmium reds and oranges of poppies against a blue sky.

All the flower color is in , now I just have to put in the stems and other un-blossomed poppy pods. When they go in the perpective that I can see will be obvious to you.

Birdhouse in a Poppy Field

My friend Kathy took a picture of a birdhouse in a poppy field and wanted it to be a painting. I enjoyed the play of perspective on this one. The photo didn't turn out as well as we had hoped but I guess you get the idea.

The Sandpiper

As I always do when wanting to paint but having no direction, the beach, once again. This time we have just the slight tinge of the pink sky beginning to appear on the horizon. I really love how the colors in the sky also change the colors of the sea.
In this painting we have a little sandpiper out to catch his last meal of the day. I can just imagine the little sand crabs scampering away and hurriedly burying themselves in the wet sand of the tide.

Butterfly Magic!

These little butterfly paintings have been a quite different from my usual art form and style. My husband actually took pictures of these butterflies in our own backyard on the butterfly bush. His name is James True and you can view his photo images at: www.flickr.com/photos/trueview So these are a collaborative work of art, husband and me.
Lot's of depth going on that I have worked on producing. Back ground, middle ground and fore ground. I must say, I have enjoyed the challenge too. Each of these paintings were painted in the company of my friend Lyn. I am just sure that her energy in the room had a great affect on my, albeit temporary, ability to stay focused long enough to give them any depth.

SHE HAS A NAME AND A STORY!

I spoke with lots of folks about this, apparently, little girl. She has brought out emotions of all ranges of the spectrum. I like this comment the most:
"I think her name is Freedom and she doesn't need hair. Her body is moving free and she has escaped all that has held her down. The joy on her face says it all, I see no fear, pain or hurt. Just the joy of freedom."
I won't say whose comment this was but I will tell you that we have dealt personally with Childhood Cancer in our own very close family. Our little one fought hard for two and a half years with leukemia and WON.
So, Freedom is her name, she is a little girl, and she will stay bald.
Yea!

Monte Sano View

Finally finished the Monte Sano View painting. I like to think that this is a view that the native tribes of Alabama, the Koasati Tribe and the Alabama Tribe saw when they looked into the valley below. The Italian translation for Monte Sano is" Healthy Mount". The Spaniard translation is " the mountain of health". We in Huntsville Alabama are lucky to have this beautiful view. For the most part it remains in beauty from the state parks program and The Land Trust of Huntsville.
I used oil paints mixed with a Liquin Impasto medium and various size knives to capture the roundness of the trees below and the roughness of the bark on those trees in the foreground.

Today in honor of Jackson Pollock's birthday, some friends and I got together and painted. Lila is the painting that I chose to do.
