On The Easel

Okay, here is the first step in blocking in some of the color to this Belly Dancer painting. These are just the "little" people.The main Belly Dancer has'nt had any color yet. I will show her to you when she gets a layer of paint on her. For now, this is where I am. There are three belly dancers in total. The camels need to get some color on them and some shadows and highlights yet are still to come. I thought though that perhaps you might like to see the construction.

Summer Days

Lovely new painting just off the easel called, "Summer Days". This painting is very large measuring 24"x48"x1 1/2/"gallery wrap. The medium used is all new to me. My friend Michele has a faux finishing business and had this wax polymer that she used to burnish into wood pieces. She gave me some , and curious, I thought, "Hmmm I wonder what would happen if I mixed paint with it and used the wax as a thickening medium similar to gel?" I did that. I mixed up some beautiful colors that called to me and began. I first laid an underpainting in to get placement and color composition down. Next, I got out the knives! Now you know how I love the knives! All the canvas was done by knife impasto using that wax polymer and acrylic paint. It dried hard overnight. I checked with my friend about the durability of the wax and she assures me that it is quite strong and uses it on fireplace mantles as well as other pieces of furniture. The texture is firm and a semi-gloss when dry.

Emerging Koala

I spent 3 and a half years in Australia, 79' onward. I loved it there. The people are THE nicest folks. The land is massive, beauty from shore to shore. The animals are so unique, almost as if God had made Australia last. Making all the rest of the world and seeing that He could do it better on one last try.
Anyway, I made a large Flow Painting of greens and browns. I stood back, took a look and saw A Koala Bear resting in the top of a Eucalyptus Tree. With just a few strokes of the brush the Koala emerged and there you have it, "Emerging Koala".
